Why did I become a Software Engineer?

I have been in love with computers since I was 9 years old, working on my parents Commodore64 computer. The logic and creativity attracted me, and I haven't stopped since. I love all things technology.

What do I love about technology leadership?

  1. 2024 - 2025

    Equips, Inc

    Vice President of Engineering

    • Architected core backend using NodeJS, Go, Postgres, Redis, AWS ECS/Lambda, and Terraform.
    • Implemented end-to-end CI/CD pipelines with automated testing, canary releases, and zero-downtime deployments.
    • Built key product features in React/TypeScript including real-time dashboards and AI-assisted CMMS workflows.
    • Drove major refactors and performance improvements, cutting defects by 75% through improved code quality and automation.

  2. 2017 to Present

    Multiple

    Fractional CTO / Engineering Leadership Consultant

    I work with pre-seed to late stage startups as a fractional CTO by doing everything from building their software to building software engineering teams. A few of my clients:

    • Seed level startup in the social media space bridging short form video content with food. I developed their initial software prototypes and architected the backend system design to handle up to 10 million users. I also recruited and hired a team of highly skilled software engineers, setup all of the SDLC, CICD, Automated Testing, and release infrastructure in the AWS Cloud.
    • Pre-seed level startup in the fintech space using automated tooling to assist crypto trading. I defined the SDLC and culture and recruited/hired the software engineering team. I also standardized their agile processes, hiring and engineering practices, and built the QA team.
    • Series A level startup in the medical/health space easing patient access to EMRs. In this role I defined the engineering security practices, defensive coding techniques and acted as temporary CISO.

  3. 2022 - Present

    Koneksa Health

    Engineering Manager

    • Built and lead a team of 10 remote software engineers and team leads (onshore and offshore) on Koneksa’s data streaming, Clinical Portal SaaS Product offering.
    • Restructured teams to increase focus and communication, resulting in better time efficiency. Introduced KPI reporting with OKRs, bringing teams inline with business goals and progress. Implemented agile processes, overall SDLC, CICD processes, test automation, resulting in small, frequent (from monthly to daily) deployments. Established team building events resulting in new tools that reduced study setup time by 60%. Introduced new PR/code reviews, design reviews, and architectural standards, resulting in significantly less quality churn.
    • Core contributor to SaaS product development roadmap. Worked with cross functional teams to establish priorities and align schedules resulting in significantly higher quality releases

  4. 2021 to 2022

    Zywave

    Director of Engineering

    • Built and lead team of 20 remote software engineers and 3 Managers on Zywave’s Personal Lines CPQ SaaS product suite.
    • Lead Agile methodology adoption for the team.
    • Created team mission, KPI’s and OKRs to guide and measure product success.
    • Initiated new successful hiring/interview process and set standards for team roles.
    • Designed fully automated DevOps processes for cloud based infrastructure (AWS).
    • Lead strategic direction for product growth and evolution to meet market demands

    • Created product development roadmaps, implemented KPI/OKR frameworks resulting in stronger business buy in and better engineering efficiency. Implemented coaching program for engineers which established a department-wide growth framework.
    • Updated DevOps patterns, CICD with Gitlab, and best practices for AWS to establish best practices and design standards in cloud development. Created Code Review and Design Meeting practices. Implemented Automation for testing and deployment to AWS, resulting in increased release frequency and increased code quality
